Restaurant Payment is an Awful Experience
There seem to be many startups working on improving the restaurant experience. They seem to be focused on ordering, but what I want fixed way more is paying.
I eat out a fair amount per week, 5-10 times when I’m home, 15-21 times while traveling. Sometimes I want to sit and relax and enjoy the scenery, but far more often I’m finished and want to get on with my day. But I can’t. I’m jailed up in a restaurant, unable to leave because of a debt, and also unable to pay. The whole process of the waitress cleaning table, getting the bill, taking the card, and finally signing takes about 5-15 minutes. The breakfast place that inspired this post this morning took 23 minutes of waving down various people to finish the whole transaction.
